Branding for USA Gymnastics by Grant Glas:

The "ART" print marketing material advertises the upcoming Acrobatic, Rhythmic and Trampoline competition sections of the 2009 Visa Championships. To revamp and introduce the public to the disciplines of gymnastics they may not be aware of, I picked a number of design elements to emphasize the elegant nature of the three aforementioned disciplines. Utilizing an altered black and white photo, I decided to opt for certain areas of the photo to remain colored. This draws in the viewer, imploring them to focus on the "art" theme by insinuating the symbiotic relationship of the play on words ("art") and the imagery. Making use of the photo that emphasizes the artistic lines of the athletes and a simple brush stoke under the title slug, the ad becomes a cohesive message portraying "ART" as a multiform discipline.

Branding for the Columbia Club by Grant Glas:

Wine Dinner: Poster, Table Tent, Flyer

The Columbia Club is a beautiful ten-story architectural showpiece located in Indianapolis on Monument Circle. It was dedicated in October 1925 and the property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in January 1983. Because of its privacy and prestige, the Columbia Club is the gracious host for distinguished visitors from political figures to celebrities. In keeping with the Club's origin, every Republican president since Harrison, including McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, Taft, Harding, Coolidge, Hoover, Eisenshower, Nixon, Ford, Reagan, George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush has visited the Club as president or candidate.

All my artwork for the Columbia Club incorporates a vintage 30s/40s typography layout. The text is set in the same manner seen in movie posters and advertisements from the mid twentieth century. The artwork also shares a common structure that in the dense spacing of the letterforms, as well as their variant widths and slightly exaggerated verticality, references the architecture of the city. This graphic language also reflects street typography in its extremely active, unconventional and almost graffiti-like juxtaposition. The combination of "vintage" and "graffiti juxtaposition" I feel best captures the energy of downtown Indianapolis and the rich history of the club.

Branding for USA Gymnastics by Grant Glas:

Visa Championships: Print Advertisement

Visa Championship print advertisements highlights the Visa "go" campaign. Dynamic visuals aim to highlight the action and make use of dramatically angled and energetic shots, as well as the amazing athletic body of the gymnast. Silhouetting and clipping, mixed with black and white overlays, clarify the imagery while eliminating redundant and distracting background elements, emphasizing the advertisement's focus. With its bold new look the Visa Championships artwork has been invigorated with a new sense of purpose, style and balance.

Identity for Encore Catering by Grant Glas:

Mark, Business Cards, Web site

Encore Catering was founded on March 15, 2008. Since it’s conception, Encore Catering has been the exclusive caterer for the Indiana Roof Ballroom, Indiana’s finest upscale event venue. As founder and CEO, Antonia Zunarelli has continued the tradition of excellence that the community has come to associate and expect from the Indiana Roof Ballroom. The Roof, as it’s commonly called, has hosted a wide variety of events ranging from wedding receptions and proms, to corporate banquets and charitable fundraisers.

For the Encore Catering identity I used: "visual identity simplification" (VIS) VIS is a concept that; If you have to proclaim ideas, people tend to believe it less. When you say things in a more understated way, it's more authoritative because there's a sense of confidence. With that concept in mind I designed a simple yet elegant logo, website, letterhead and bussiness cards. Visit Encore's site at www.my-encore.com
